The looking machine was the name given to those 19th century objects that, through mirrors and shutters, created optical illusions. In the work The Watching Machine we imagine that the illusion-generating machine is the stage box itself. In it we play with light, shadows and reflections to experiment and reflect on what illusion is, what is representation and what is theatrical convention.
